Women usually felt nicely supported, especially by female relatives and, for many who attended them, postnatal teams. This was in contrast to the lads who usually solely had health professionals and work colleagues to turn to. The males felt very involved with their partners’ pregnancy however excluded from antenatal appointments, antenatal classes and by the literature that was obtainable.
Partners and households play an essential function in MRH as they will provide a supportive surroundings for women and girls looking for care. We use a gender-transformative approach to change attitudes and gender norms amongst males and communities to empower girls and women to make use of MRH services. This encourages the adoption of wholesome behaviors and norms, and generates demand for household planning and maternal well being services, particularly in underserved populations and amongst adolescents.
